Samsung Galaxy S21 release date, price, specs and leaks

 Galaxy S21 Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy S21 is set to be revealed on January 14 as the company hosts its own Unpacked event then, and we expect the release date for the new handset to come toward the end of the month.

Samsung's flagship 2021 phones are arriving more than a month earlier in the year than we'd normally expect, and that's good news for anyone who wants a cutting-edge phone to start off the new year. It also means leaks are coming in fast for the S21 series so we know plenty about the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Here's why this is big news: our current best smartphones ranking names the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus as the best phones in the world right now.

The Galaxy S21 series – rumored to cost the same as last year's models – may replace the year-old phones in that top spot. And if the S21 Ultra comes with an S Pen like rumors increasingly suggest, we could see another top-tier super-premium smartphone.

Every important Samsung S21 leak is here, plus we've included in-depth details on the likely Samsung Galaxy S21 release date and price. If you still need more after that, head through this article for a clear picture of all three new handsets including camera, battery and what accessories will be included.

Latest news

A report suggests that every model in the Samsung Galaxy S21 range will cost less than its predecessor.

Plus, a new report suggests the Galaxy S21 will be on sale before the end of January with a variety of freebies available to those who pre-order. You can see more in the release date section below.

Samsung Galaxy S21 key details

The Samsung Galaxy S21 family is set to be announced on Thursday, January 14. That's when the semi-annual Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2021 press conference happens and where we'll see the new phones as well as the Galaxy SmartTag Bluetooth trackers and possibly Galaxy Buds Pro.

Following that, the Samsung Galaxy S21 release date is rumored to be January 22 or January 29, a switch from the usual late February announcement and early March release dates that we've seen from the past several Galaxy S smartphones.

The current thinking is it'll be landing on January 29 as a variety of leakers have suggested so, including Roland Quandt that you can see below:

This isn't the first time we've heard these dates, with a Galaxy S21 leaker previously saying that the phone will be announced on January 14, and that they expect pre-orders to open the same day and for the phones to be available on January 29. A Samsung store in India has also said similar.

We've also heard the January 29 release date from Samsung again too, this time in the terms and conditions of a reservation scheme letting you register interest in the new phones.

So while January 29 isn't certain for the Galaxy S21 release date, it's looking more and more likely as we get closer to the January 14 unveiling.

World's First Samsung's See Through Transparent Phone!! It's CRAZY.

Transparent Smart Phone

Once in a while you hear about transparent smartphones, although various smartphone manufacturers have been developing this advanced technology for decades, there are as yet no devices available that are fully transparent.

Samsung is working on a transparent see-through smartphone, which I will tell you in detail but.

In January 2020, Samsung electronics filed a utility patent with the united states patent, and trademark office. The patent was published on august 27, 2020 and describes the technology needed to create a transparent smartphone. Alternatively this technology could also be applicable to other consumer electronics products such as, a TV, monitor, laptop, and game console as a basis, an oled display is used which is characterized by low power consumption high brightness, and a faster response time than conventional LCD displays.

The O LED screen is equipped with a transparent luminous display panel, through which light can shine, thus content can be displayed on the transparent screen, while users can simultaneously see through the phone, it can be a flat display, but also a flexible screen that can bend, fold, and a roll according to the patent description.

It is a technically defined patent that goes into great detail about the different layers, and components required to achieve transparency, the patent images show a modern smartphone with narrow bezels, and the large transparent screen, each pixel on the phone's display would allow light to pass through it, Effectively rendering the screen transparent,

In Samsung's patent drawing, shows that transparent screen resembles a window through which the holder's hand can be seen, only the bezels seem to be opaque, Dreams of transparent Phones, aren't new, LG had a crack in 2009 with the gd 900, but it only featured a transparent keypad, Sony Ericsson followed up, with The X Peria Pureness, which too its credit, did feature a transparent display, but it wasn't very good though. The company would need to find a way of housing the battery, and other components, so as to not interfere with the transparent display, or somehow make those elements transparent too.

But developing a transparent phone, It's a problem, which was demonstrated by taiwanese firm polytron technologies transparent phone in 2013. the S D card, and ribbon cables were still visible despite the phone's largely transparent body, these patents rarely develop into mainstream devices, so don't expect Samsung to launch a transparent galaxy S, or note series shortly. But the search for the next big smartphone innovation is taking companies to extreme level.

So that is all the latest Samsung news, as always let me know your thoughts in the comment section below

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold

Last year Lenovo showed us a prototype of a totally new type of PC. A full on Windows 10 computer, with a foldable OLED display.

Now it's C E S 2020, the company is telling us what the final shipping version of that product. it's called, the ThinkPad X1 Fold.

So the hardware hasn't changed that much from before, there's still a 13-inch OLED screen that folds, there's still a wireless keyboard, that come with the whole package, and it still looks kind a leather-bound book when you fold it up.

What has changed, is Lenovo's work on the software side of things. Now the X1 Fold runs regular Windows 10 which really isn't designed for these kinds of foldable screens. So Lenovo has had to give you the ability to, for example, pin certain apps on different sides of the screen, and there's a little icon in the taskbar that you can click to do this. If you use the device in portrait mode when it's unfolded you can click the same icon and that gives you the option to bring up an on-screen keyboard, and then if you fold the laptop on top of each other it's like you have a mini laptop with a touchscreen keyboard. Or you can use the wireless-Bluetooth keyboard, put it on top of the onscreen keyboard and then you have a miniature laptop with little keys.

Alternatively you can unfold the laptop to its full screen, and use the kickstand on the back, and use the keyboard wirelessly. There's also a separate stand that'll ship a little bit later, that holds the monitor up like an easel, and you can use the Bluetooth keyboard below it. Lenovo is also planning a version of the device that runs on Windows 10 X, which might actually be a better fit. That's the version of Windows that Microsoft is working on, and it's designed specifically for dual-screen devices, and foldable devices.

Microsoft has it's own Surface Neo coming up this year, which runs Windows 10X.

So that might be a better fit for the X1 Fold. The only problem is it's not going to ship until after the Windows 10 version.

So the X1 Fold screen is being made by LG Display. The two companies say they've been working on this product for more than four years together, and Lenovo is really confident about the product's durability in particular. They spent a lot of time showing us all the complicated components that go into the hinge design. Obviously there have been some pretty high profile failures in this product category already, so there's a reason to be skeptical, but you know the company is confident in its design.

There's some neat touches on the device, there's a slight crease in the display when you fold it open, but it's not super visible, and although there's a gap when you fold it together, between the two sections of the screen that actually gets filled up by the keyboard which is kind of a nice touch.

In terms of specs, the X1 Fold is using a new type of processor from Intel, but we can't go into detail on yet. Otherwise there's 8 gigabytes of RAM, up to a terabyte of SSD storage, and Lenovo is claiming up to 11 hours of battery life. So overall this is looking like a pretty cool, pretty experimental device.

But the problem with experimental tech products is that, companies charge high money for those products, and this one is gonna cost quite a lot. Lenovo is shipping it in the middle of this year for around $2,500. Which is a lot of money for any kind of laptop, or tablet, especially one that you know, has potential questions about durability and so on surrounding it. That said, we are super excited and looking forward to spending a lot more time with it, and hopefully we should be able to do more experiments with it, towards the middle of the year.

So yeah, this is just one of many weird and wacky PC concepts we're gonna see this week.

Huawei Shocked Samsung and Apple

So for the first Time, Huawei managed to surpass Samsung for the most number of smartphones sold worldwide in a particular quarter. Thereby claiming the title of the world's biggest smartphone vendor. If you remember Huawei did manage to beat Samsung in the month of April but it's the first time ever that they are at the top for the entire quarter. Huawei shipped 55.8 million devices, whereas Samsung shipped 53.7 million smartphones in Quarter 2. They managed to beat Samsung only because of the pandemic. You see Huawei's main market is China which contributes to over 70% of its business. Given how China was the first to end up in this COVID mess, it’s also the first country to experience the recovery. When cases were being spiked in countries like the US, Europe, India, and more which are Samsung's main markets, there were very minimal cases in China and the economy was back to normal. Since Samsung has less than 1% market share in China, this gave Huawei a huge advantage because its reliance on the China market has given them a big and you can say an unfair advantage.

Even the senior analyst at Canalys who compiled this report says the same thing that and I quote, "If it wasn't for COVID, it wouldn't have happened. Huawei has taken full advantage of the Chinese economic recovery to reignite its smartphone business." Since the economy is getting back to normal
in Samsung's main markets, they will more likely reclaim the number one spot in quarter 3 of this year.
It looks like the end of Bixby is near. Bloomberg reports that Samsung and Google are in a discussion for a deal that involves promoting the Google Assistant and the Play Store over Samsung’s own alternatives which are Bixby and Galaxy store. Samsung has built an ecosystem of its own on top of Android and Google. This ecosystem covers apps like web browsers and email clients, the Galaxy Store for apps, and the Bixby assistant. Since Samsung sells the most smartphones in a year, shipping over 300 million units every single year, Google certainly stands to benefit a lot from this massive scale.
Since Samsung invested quite a lot of money into building this ecosystem, it will take some convincing this time. Google has a multi-billion-dollar agreement with Apple to be the default search provider
in the Safari browser. So we can expect a similar deal with Samsung as well where Google pays certain billion dollars to Samsung for certain years to push Assistant and play store over Bixby and Galaxy
Store.

This is certainly great news for people who are annoyed with Bixby as it's inferior to the Google assistant but Galaxy store features some exclusive apps and games that are not available on the play store. So this means Samsung users will not have that exclusivity anymore.
